Felt like blogging about dinner today as the Lychee Pork was very colourful and yummy, and  i tried eating and cooking this new veggie called royal chives (aka qing long cai) for the first time. I have heard alot of rave about it for a long time but never tried it before as to be honest, it did not look very appetizing when i saw it at the grocery store. It also had a strong smell which i was not fond of. After tasting it, i realized how wrong i was. It’s really really good! I cleaned out the plate tonight cos it was really light and appetizing with a great texture. It doesn’t have a strong smell at all. If you were unsure like me before, I hope this post will change your mind!

The veggie was very simple, you only need a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients:

  1. 200g royal chives, cleaned and cut into sections
  2. 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  3. 1/2 carrot, cut into thin strips
  4. Handful of mini king oyster mushrooms, cut in strips (use any of your favourite mushrooms)
  5. 2 – 3 tbsp oyster sauce
  6. Few spalshes of water, as needed

Method:

  1. In a hot wok, saute garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add in carrots and mushrooms.
  3. When mushrooms start to soften, add in royal chives.
  4. Fry until royal chives is just cooked. If you feel that your mixture is getting too dry, add a splash of water and stir fry.
  5. Add in oyster sauce and toss well until chives are cooked through.
